The Journey of Music, Acting and Martial Arts

My name is SunshineRose K and I am from the Philippines. I admire the unique beauty of all genres of music, but I am called more to the classic ballads, Pop, and sometimes Pop Rock. I am also very fond of Latin music and got inspired to learn the language because of it. Having the ability to sing in at least 3 different languages, I love how music connects people and how it tells different stories that relate to everyone. I also like acting and bringing to life the characters of the story. I truly love the magic that both music and theater bring.

Martial Arts is also something that I love to do and try to incorporate it in my busy life. I remember watching those martial arts movies back home midafternoon and wanting to practice then but I used to be told that it is not for young ladies, and it is “not ladylike”. Eventually as I started to have my own bank account I secretly enrolled in a Taekwondo school and before my family knew it, I was doing forms in front of them already and they ended up agreeing with me. The health, longevity, and fitness benefits that it brings is truly beneficial, not to mention being able to defend yourself is definitely an asset. I find the movements of the forms to both be beautiful and meditative at the same time.

I received my vocal training from Center for Pop Music Philippines, and I participated in school concerts and plays. When I came here to NY, I lived with my Mom and went on different auditions. I had a pause for some time to focus more on having my own family and now I am ready to get back into the swing of things in the music industry as well as doing some acting.

I am looking forward as this journey continues and will keep posting my progress as I go. As Lao Tzu said: “A Journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step”. And so I press on forward to see where this leads and when success finds me, I will be more than happy to use it to give back to the community.
